Description

Many varied objects in this complex and field - Includes globular clusters M4 and NGC6144, nebulas IC4603, IC4604, IC4605, IC4606, LBN1105 and LBN1106, dark regions LDN1681, LDN1686, LDN1696.

This is a vast complex of nebulosity with star forming regions that is about 427ly distant. On the bottom left is the red supergiant Antares which if placed in the location of the sun would extend out beyond the orbit of Mars. Antares is the brightest star in Scorpio. To the right of Antares is the large globular cluster M4 and above right of Antares is the smaller globular NGC6144. M4 is about 7200ly distant and is about 12.2b years old.

IC4604 is the bluish nebula at the top also known as the Rho Ophiuchi nebula. IC4605 is the nebulosity surrouding Antares. The reddish nebulas to the right are LBN1105 and LBN1106.
