Description

M106 - cold night, still lots of trouble with the mount post meridian flip losing a lot of subs and also stiff cables dragging.

but ... new mount (lockdown present to myself) the CEM70G is sat in my front room waiting for the tripod to be delivered. i will then strip down and service my NE6 and either sell it on or use it at my brothers (darker area) - yet to decide.

anyway - back to M106 - most of the subs were taken pre-meridian flip - and did ok. PHD2 multistar guiding is great - best guiding ive had in ages.

Description: Updated processing to
A) make sure selected appropriate Debayer pattern

B) did not use Bias - i think this had a big impact - as on original version i can see the thermal pattern in the top right (10% down on right edge) which the darks should have removed - but did not appear to have done so
C) used SCNR on the linear image to remove the green - this made noise reduction much easier and more consistant as it did not have to work around a mix of red and green
D) masked stretch also improved for same reason as SCNR - as it had a more consistant background to work from it was able to do a better job of stretching the image.
All the other steps were about the same - using a mix of starnet / range mask / luminance mask to isolate galaxy in order to tweak lightness and saturation a little after HDR / Local Histogram Equalisation.
