Description

An experiment to combine data from my Altair 183 OSC CMOS (2.40 micron px) and L frames from my DSI III pro CCD (6.45 micron px) cameras. A bit like sowing seeds, you never quite know what you are going to get, and strangely these data were taken exactly one year apart.

I aligned (translation, rotation and scaling) each stack in Nebulosity v4 and then processed in Startools. The mouseover shows the mono stack following stretch and curves, with unsharp mask.  In Startools - stretch, wipe, sharpen, deconvolution, tamed core, colour balance, healed stars (removed blooming artifact and de-warped), and final noise reduction.

The image comprises 62 x 180s OSC and 63 x 120s L frames. I'm pleased with the boost to detail in the core (I expect I suppressed the halo in my processing). I think there is potential here to image at different focal lengths too.

Title: Bright and colourful

Description: Whilst I try and emulate the 'natural' colours of the objects I image, using Startools 'scientific' colour constancy module, it is fun to play sometimes. Here I've ramped up the saturation showing off that wonderful flocculation and colourful stars... or perhaps it's just a distraction?
