Description

West Veil Nebula

----------------------------

I recently found some old data I captured about 1.5 years ago, on the 'West Veil Nebula'.

This is part of a much bigger 'supernova remnant', called the 'Cygnus loop'.

10,000-20,000 years ago, a star 20x more massive than our Sun exploded in a bright supernova explosion, about 2,400 light-years away from us.

This supernova explosion must have been brighter than Venus and was probably visible during the day.

The faint red & blue glow in this image is caused by hydrogen & oxygen atoms in intestellar space, respectively.

This supernova remnant is expanding with a speed of around 1.5 million kilometers per hour.

This image was created using 9.5 hours of data I collected in August 2019.

----------------------------

Total imaging time: 9.5 hours (8 hours in colour + 1.5 hours in Hydrogen-alpha)

Telescope: Sky-Watcher Evostar ED80 Black Diamond

Camera: ZWO ASI294MC Pro

Mount: Celestron AVX
