Description

NGC253 (Silver Coin, Great Sculptor Galaxy, Caldwell 65)The transparency and seeing were pretty poor so I thought I would experiment with very short duration shots. Also limited time -- more would be better. Came out pretty well. The Ha areas look a bit too stellar and the arms are faint but visible. Its a star burst galaxy so no portrait without the red for the hydrogen clouds and blue for the young stars would be plausible. I didn't capture the bulging centre very well. It's odd but I had to invert it and get the dust lanes lower than the galaxy to make them feel like they were closer to us -- apparently my eye isn't as comfortable looking up at a galaxy from underneath. Not much I can say about it except big bright and beautiful! Discovered by Caroline Herschell in 1783 from England - full marks as it must have been pretty low to the horizon! (And an australian radio astronomy pioneer working out of Sydney, Bernard Mills, discovered it as pretty bright in radio but then its pretty active so that's no surprise to us now). Usually the central bulge is made up of older stars but (athough they are there) there is a lot of activity with a black hole eating more than usual and spitting out "superwinds" and causing copious new star formation in the central area. Quattro 8", ZWO178MM-C, OAG guiding, ASIAIR, EQ6Pro, zwo filters and SW coma corrector 7/10/2021L.H/R.G.B      L 200x20s ;  H 30x120s ; RGB each 30x30s (gain 270x , -5degC) - total about 2h50min
