Description

The lagoon nebula (M8) can already be observed with the naked eye under optimal conditions. The smaller and less bright Trifid Nebula (M20) is a nice object for binoculars. The Lagoon Nebula, like the Trifid Nebula, is about 5,000 light years away from us. The entire nebula in the sky is about twice the size of the full moon.
