Description

First result of my dark-sky weekend camping trip: M97 & M108!

My original plan was to put my color astro cam, my ZWO ASI294MC Pro, on my Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer star tracker with a camera lens, so in its usual place on the Takahashi refractor, I put the camera I ordinarily use for scientific imaging, my QSI 583, which was donated to me by an AAVSO member. I have heard that it is a good imaging camera, so I wanted to test it out! I am pretty pleased with the result!

These two objects here form a unique pair indeed. For one, they are very different objects -- M108 is a barred spiral galaxy, while M97 is the result of a dying star in our own galaxy. M108 is 46 million lightyears away, while M97 is a measly 2,800 lightyears away. It is unusual to see these two very different types of objects together in the same view!
