Truly a mixed media presentation, in media and technique. Provided for inspiration. Reflector (composite SCT) and refractor, CCD and CMOS. Color data was obtained using the TOA 130 and STT-8300 camera, and luminance (Ha) was obtained using the C11Edge with .7x reducer and ASI 1600 camera. The technique I was going for was simulating a 25th century eyepiece experience (sort of like the new telescope--I think by Celestron-that uses stacked digital imagesto enhance the eyepiece view. An interesting approacj). Space, in general (at least to our eyes), is a pallid place--not much color. The outer portions of the image are just Ha data, which increase in brightness and include color toward the center--similar to what an eyepiece might provide when one condiders vignetting of the edges due to field curvature (color fades as lsignal is diminished).

I only had the jpeg TOA image to deal with, which was unfortunate. I lost the the stacks when my hard drive crashed a few years ago. Still, inserting the C11Edge Ha as luminance dramatically improved the image, even though most of the image deficiencies were the result of poor processing.

I may still complete a HaSHO image using just C11Edge data--after I collect the OIII and SII. We'll see

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
