Description

This shot was one of the prime targets on my voyage to Namibia.
In my view one of the most spectacular objects on the southern skies , both in terms of nebulosity and object complexity.
In the limited time frame I had , I recorded 6 panels of each 1.5-2h exposure with the Epsilon 130 and ASI 6200MC.
The Vela supernova remnant is a located in the southern constellation of Vela. It exploded approximately 12,000 years ago and is about 800 lightyears distant.
The Vela supernova remnant spans roughly 8 degrees in the sky and also includes NGC 2736, the iconic Pencil nebula, just visible on the extreme right of the image.
The Vela remnant also overlaps the Puppis A supernova remnant, which is 3000 lightyears away.
