Description

While comparing two luminance stacks on NGC 3147 taken on the evenings of 3/9/2021 and 3/15/2021, I noticed a dramatic brightening of a tiny object. Since the object was essentially stationary for about two hours on 3/15, I do not think it is an asteroid.

EDIT: Thanks to some research from Cloudy Nights members Migwan and Dan Crowson, it appears that the image probably shows a superoutburst of the dwarf nova CP Draconis. The AAVSO site says this star is a SU Ursae Majoris variable, and its recent observations can be viewed here:

Sorry for the hasty effort at processing. The two images in the gif are median-combined luminance stacks with a similar stretch. The "pretty picture" version of NGC 3147 is coming later this week.
