Description

This object is an open star cluster located 5000 light years away in the constellation of Scutum at a declination of -8 degrees. The cluster spans 12 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 17 light years.

This cluster is a bit subtle but stands out to me upon closer inspection due to the numerous orange giants which populate the image. The cluster is easier to see if you focus on the sky background first in the outer regions of the image, where small orange stars populate the space. Once your eyes get used to these small orange stars, shift your focus to the center, where the cluster now becomes much more apparent.
