Description

Here's my rendition of the famous M16 Pillars of Creation in SHO with RGB stars.  It is a different processing of the wide-field 24.7h LRGBSHO image of M16, the Eagle Nebula shown at the link above.   This one uses 21.8 HRS of that same RGBSHO data from Deep Sky West, Rowe, NM. collected by the DSW team between 24 April and 10 July, 2020.  Star-removed drizzle-integrated data were processed in SHO colormap with RGB stars added.

These towering tendrils of cosmic dust and gas at the heart of M16, or the Eagle Nebula, are part of an active star-forming region within the M16 nebula and hide newborn stars in their wispy columns. The winds from these stars are slowly eroding the towers of gas and dust. Roughly 4 light years in length, the Pillars are a small feature in the center of the Eagle Nebula (link above) which spans ~60 light years . [based on NASA website]

10/21/22: Comparison of a closeup of the Pillars of Creation from this image with the fantastic latest release from the James Webb Space Telescope is shown at:
