Description

Here is a rarely imaged barred spiral galaxy in the Southern skies. NGC 1512 has a double ring structure: one ring around the nucleus and the other in the main disk. NGC 1512 has been merging with its dwarf galaxy companion (NGC 1510) for 400 million years. When it’s all over, you could say that NGC 1510 had been cannibalized. This is an RGB image.
