Description

NGC1502 is a small open cluster of approximately 45 stars in the constellation Camelopardalis, or the Giraffe. It is considered one of the finest objects in this constellation. Kemble's Cascade seems to "flow" into NGC1502. Discovered in 1787 by Friedrick Wilhelm Herschel. A strikingly attractive string of stars seems to flow into the star cluster. This string goes under the name ‘Kemble's Cascade’, named after Father Lucian Kemble, a Franciscan and amateur astronomer from Saskatchewan who contributed greatly to the art of astronomical observation.

Observation Notes : Bright, large, and pretty rich at 100X. There are 27 stars counted in the cluster with several bright pairs and a nice blue and gold double on the north east side. This somewhat scattered open cluster is easy in the 11X80 finder.
