Description

NGC 5832 is a seldom imaged galaxy in the constellation Ursa Minor. In researching this object, I found the following notes in "DEEP SKY OBJECTS - ILLUSTRATED OBSERVING GUIDE" by Michael Vlasov (2008): "unusul obj; bar and spir pattern very blue." The comments got me interested, but I found very few images of this object on the web.

I decided to take a shot at it just to see it for myself. After just one sub, I knew this was going to be a very difficult object to image. The surface brightness is very low for its size. Also, the apparent size is smaller than I was expecting. I decided to spend some time on it anyway. I ended up taking 18 minute luminance subs from a very good dark site, and there still wasn't much signal there.

Yes, this galaxy is very blue! My efforts did not pick up any H-alpha sources, but perhaps the seeing was not good enough, or my integration time was just too low. NGC 5832 is a good challenge for someone with a larger 'scope than my C11.
