Description

What do you do when you have a rare week of clear, moonless nights?  You work through the Abell catalogue of unbelievably-dim planetary nebulae, most of which require multiple nights.  Abell-6 is relatively uninteresting, but it is in the same field of view as the much more impressive HFG-1.  The latter is also a planetary nebula, but it is zipping through the galaxy at a speed of between 29 and 59 km/s, producing a bow shock and leaving a long trail behind it.

This image shows the nebulae in HOO, with RGB stars.
