Description

Here's 40 minutes on the newly discovered visitor from another star, comet 2I/Borisov! Originally given "standard" comet designation C/2019 Q4 Borisov, after its discoverer amateur astronomer Gennadiy Borisov less than 6 weeks ago, and renamed as its interstellar origin became clear.

Still very close to the sun in angular distance, it's slowly becoming an easier target.

Taken on 2019-10-03 just before and slightly into dawn twilight, between 5-6AM local time. This was maybe my third or fourth attempt. I'm in the process of learning Ekos/INDI/KStars, and previous attempts failed because of twilight guards or similar sequencing mistakes on my part.

Using a manual process in PixInsight, 5x30sec unguided images were combined into the 16 2.5min frames for this animation. PixInsight Blink was used to generate the image sequence, and Adobe Premiere and Photoshop used to mark and animate the GIF.
