In a bit of a hurry today, so please forgive me for not attaching the process description which I will try to upload in the following days.

Today I want to share with you a "Serindipity" Lucky Imaging of Vallis Rheita. Lucky imaging because of the technique and serindipity because I was decided to shoot something that day no matter what and how. And I found out that shooting through high clouds was very good to temperate highlights on the high albedo areas from the highlands being directedly lit by the Sun. Of course, contrast and definition was lost significantly, but seeing was ok for some time, so I gave it a try and got what it seems (to me at least 😊) a nice view of Vallis Rheita... I am happy to have squeezed something out that day...

A couple of words on Vallis Rheita as I find it super quirky and interesting. Vallis Rheita is a linear valley, approximately 450 km long. At its widest points it reaches a width of about 30 km. It consists of a string of numerous, partially overlapping craters. It is suggested that it may have arisen from secondary events following the Nectaris impact. If the position of Janssen, Fabricius, Metius, Rheita and Rheita E is examined at a large scale, then it appears that they all lie on a nearly straight line. It is conceivable that their formation, nearly simultaneously, may be traced back to a very large asteroid that broke apart shortly before the impact.

All in all, I was lucky in my serindipity of lucky imaging and also with the light position, as the valley becomes very clear (I have rotated the image to enhance the depth of the valley) in the image. So lots of luck.

Resulting image is a 3% out of a total 45000 frames at 140fps at 4700 focal length.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
