Description

This is a galaxy called the Sculptor Filament, NGC 253. At about 12 million light years away, it's the most visible galaxy in the Sculptor constellation. It's what's called a "starburst galaxy," which means it's creating stars at a breakneck pace compared to most galaxies, including ours. That accounts for its rich pink and blue hues. At 90,000 light years in diameter, it's smaller than the Milky Way and less massive by a considerable amount.

Description: I've been getting one-on-one PixInsight instruction from Ron Brecher, so I decided to go back and apply what he's taught me to one of my favorite images. I'm still a bit stunned at the difference it made.
