Description

This object is a grand design spiral galaxy located 45 million light years away in the constellation of Virgo at a declination of +5 degrees. This galaxy spans almost 6 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to an actual diameter of 80,000 light years. It is inclined at about 45 degrees to our line of sight.

I see three 3 distinct arm regions – two tight arms that spiral 180 degrees around the core, a mid-region oval ring, and two arms that spiral 540 degrees out from the ring. Many star clusters are seen, whose blue color contrasts nicely with the yellow inner region. The smaller galaxy to the right is NGC 5360.
