Description

Imaged on nights of 9/2/2020, 9/3/2020, 9/11/2020, 9/15/2020.

Abell 5 is a Planetary Nebula in the constellation Perseus. It is one of the very dim PNs at magnitude 16.0. Seems much dimmer than that to me. Ha is about 3 to 4 times stronger than the Oiii so that makes the Oiii very hard to separate from the background, but we do have some here. It appears to mostly overlap the areas with Ha so mostly just changes the color toward the blue/green. It is fairly large for a PN with a diameter of only 2.3 arcminutes.

The shape of Abell 5 is a distinct ring with a completely empty center. Very unusual for Abell PNs.

Looking at a pure RBG image there is no evidence of the PN, unless you know exactly where to look there is just a hint of the red ring.

Abell 5 is very rarely imaged, almost no info is found for it on the web.

There is a very tiny central star that may be the star energizing it. Just a guess.
