Description

This is pretty small. The first image is a pixel by pixel close up and the second is my standard 500x500 pixel image. All RGB. HRDM applied.

From Wikipedia:

IC 418, also known as Spirograph Nebula, is a planetary nebula located in the constellation of Lepus about 3,600 ly away.

The name derives from the intricate pattern of the nebula, which resembles a pattern which can be created using the Spirograph, a toy that produces geometric patterns (specifically, hypotrochoids and epitrochoids) on paper. [Better have the Hubble to see this].

IC 418 lies about 3600 light-years away and spans 0.3 light-years across.
