Description

The Chamaeleon I molecular cloud is an active star-forming region located in the southern sky, approximately 650 light-years from Earth. It is part of the Chamaeleon molecular cloud complex.

This cloud primarily consists of dark nebulae and reflection nebulae, showing signs of young star formation. In the 1946 Ced Catalog, two major reflection nebulae within this cloud were designated Ced 110 and Ced 111, located respectively near the upper left of the image at the C-shaped region and the bluish area below it.

The Chamaeleon Infrared Nebula (Cha IRN) is a V-shaped bright spot, sculpted by outflows from newly formed low-mass stars.
