Description

I collected this data several years ago and never was able to process it even remotely well. It was a shame because the Ha data was fairly good. The OIII is terribly faint, and even 10 hour with an F4.3 system struggled in a poor sky. I decided to give it one more try, throwing all the tricks I learned in the past two years. While not a great image by any means, it is at least respectable in my eyes. It is so much better than my previous attempts that I think it worthy of adding to my library. I am looking forward to imaging the bat and squid again with a slightly wider FOV. Hopefully my acquisition skills have improved and I will be able to do it justice. Until then, this rendering will have to do. This is an HOO composition. This target represents the ultimate new discovery. Quite recently (2010 or 2011 I think) an imager decided to see if there was any OIII emissions associated with the large, distinct Ha region known as the Flying Bat Nebula. Nothing was visible in a single sub, but OIII emissions can be faint, so he piled up the hours. Low and behold, he discovered one of the most bizarre and mysterious structures in the heavens, OU4.
