Description

NGC 4151 is an intermediate spiral Seyfert galaxy with low surface brightness arms some 52 million light years distant in Canes Venatici.  It is one of the nearest galaxies to contain an actively growing supermassive black hole and is nicknamed the "Eye of Sauron" from its resemblance to the floating fiery eyeball in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.  A couple of faint tidal streams can be seen in the image. - "above" NGC 4151, there's a tidal stream seemingly connecting the spiral NGC 4156 and another galaxy identified in Simbad as LEDA 2151005; while a second faint tidal stream is "below" NGC 4151 surrounding the galaxy identified as 2MAXI J1210166+391816.  I was not able to find any information regarding these tidal streams.

Imaged over several nights:  Mar 21, 27, 30; Apr 11-12, 2023.
