Description

I made a series of 12 captures of the waning but nearly full Moon. At the time it was 92% illuminated and 17 days and 13 hours old. For this image I cropped the capture for the region around the crater Tycho. Despite it being fully illuminated the which means there was little shadow contrast, I felt the detail warranted posting the image. As I was processing the image in RegiStax, the software was only applying the sharpening to a central square on the image. It struck me that having the central area with the crater sharply defined, with the periphery unsharpened provides a better focus on the details of the crater itself. It also clearly demonstrates the benefit of wavelet focusing by comparing the stacked but unsharpened parts of the image, with the central part after wavelet sharpening was applied.
