Description

M74 (NGC 628) is a face-on spiral galaxy in the constellation Pisces. Prime example of spiral structure and density waves. It has the lowest surface brightness of the Messier objects. M74 is nearly the same size as our Milky Way galaxy. It lies 35 million light years away and is receding from us at the rate of 793 km/sec. Its spiral arms reach out to 95,000 light years from the core, and are about 1000 light years wide.

I'm not likely to get more data on this object the way this Winter has gone . I had hoped to get some Ha data, maybe next year.
