Description

Living near an airfield means a lot of air traffic which in turn usually ruins light frames. But sometimes an airplane or its trail may complete the composition of a photograph.

As we approach the great conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn, I made another attempt to photograph the event. I have tried to use a zoom telephoto lens with 300mm maximum focal length, but its mechanical and optical quality was worse than the 135mm Samyang lens.

Only three of the Jovian moons are visible. Io's angular separation from Jupiter was small, rendering Io hidden under the glare of Jupiter.

In the second frame (Rev. C and D) Titan, the largest moon of Saturn is visible.

Technical Details: Canon 550D at ISO 800. Samyang 135mm f/2 at f/2. First frame taken at 16:03 UT, exposure time 1 sec. Second frame taken at 16:06 UT, exposure time 1.3 sec. Objects were approximately 15 degrees above the local horizon.
