Description

This is M33 the Triangulum Galaxy. It is the third largest galaxy in our local group (preceded by the Milky Way and the Andromeda Galaxy). It appears to have been discovered before 1700 which amazes me (I can't believe how good astronomers had to be back then in order to identify objects such as this one). It is 2.73 million light years from Earth and has a diameter of 60,000 light years.

I really like the prominent HII regions visible near the core and in the outer arms as well as the OIII regions at the outskirts.

This one was an interesting one for me. I had to throw away quite a few subs due to erratic camera behavior (to this day I haven't been able to reproduce the issues I was having). I also tried a different post processing technique; I extracted the luminance layer towards the beginning and processed it separately all the way through before recombining it with my RGB image at the end (credit goes to my friend and colleague Jeff who got me thinking about how to do this).

I think those who say to process luminance separately are definitely on to something as the detail I was able to bring out in that layer on this one was higher than normal.

Let me know what you think!
