Description

Here is another rarely imaged deep sky object. Arp’s Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies classifies it as a “galaxy with amorphous spiral arms.”

NGC 7727 is what’s left after a collision of two spiral galaxies that happened 1 billion years ago. The plumes and streams are remnants of the disks of the two original galaxies; in addition, it is possible that both cores still exist within the interior.

This is an RGB image. Total imaging time was only 2.5 hours, which is the self-imposed limit I use on most of my images.

Tech Notes:

ASA Newtonian, 500 mm aperture, 1900mm focal length, F3.6
FLI Proline 16803, 9 mm pixel, 4096 X 4096
ASA DDM85 equatorial mount
Processing with PixInsight and Affinity Photo

Description: Recently I have been comparing images processed with StarTools against images previously processed with PixInsight. This is actually a difficult target, because the galaxy is small and it's hard to bring out structure and color. I thought that ST did a nice job.
