Description

Not a super interesting star field, rich in nebula... but still an interesting object. T Lyrae is a carbon star - a red giant, that is fusing helium into carbon in the core. One source I found online estimates the size of T Lyrae at 600 solar radii - which means if it sat where the sun is, its outer layer would extend to twice the orbit of Mars!

Through convection currents, the carbon is being distributed up from the core into the outer layers of the star. Carbon scatters the blue end of the visual spectrum and allows red to shine through, leading to the deep red color associated with most carbon stars.
