Description

2MASX J13124494+1803399 is a galaxy of 0.15' x 0.15' apparent size near to the globular cluster M53. 2MASX J13124494+1803399 is the small blemish right to the cluster. You can identify it in version B. This galaxy has a redshift of z = 0.12669 corresponding to a radial velocity of 37981 km/s. It is about 564.46 +/- 39 Mpc away from us, this means 1,839,561,425 light years...(!). You can get more information about this galaxy here:

Of course when I decided to shoot M53 I hadn't any clue about this galaxy. During this humid night with clouds paying with my nerves I just wanted to make another quick test picture for my C6+ Celestron reducer (I need collimation). 41 minutes is a ridiculous exposure time for a deep sky object. Nevertheless this small galaxy made my day, or better my night . M53 is fine, 60000 light years away (you reach your arm and you can almost touch the stars, compared to the 1,83 billion light years ). But who cares about M53 when you can get MASXJ13124494+1803399 ? . As far as we know globular clusters are not good places for life evolution, but galaxies are, we know at least one galaxy where life is present
All the best, Andreas
