Description

Messier 38 (Starfish|) and Messier 36/NGC1907 (Pinwheel) are open star clusters located in the constellation of Auriga. Image taken with the Atik 460ex.

This image is a good summary of star temperature and colors.
Hot Blue stars have temperature between 15,000 to 30,000 Kelvin
White stars have temperature between 8,000 and 15,000 Kelvin
Yellow stars like our sun have temperature around 6,000 Kelvin
Red stars are cooler stars with temperatures around 3,000 Kelvin. For more details have a look at the Hertzsprung-Russell star diagram. The HR diagram is a plot of luminosity vs. surface temperature and colors. Most stars fall within a small number of discrete groups (O,B,A,F,G,K,M).
