For me, I purchased my own scope in 2019 and started imaging in early 2020. It's been quite the experience so far and the more astrophotography I do the more I want to be involved with astronomy in general. There is ups and downs. Some nights will test your patience and sanity. The weather may decide to end your night, hardware or the software. But I still love it. I check the weather all the time and search for objects to image within my view. It becomes an addiction.
The reward to be able to look into the past and see some of the most beautiful and destructive forces in the universe is too great. One of the most humbling hobbies that can instantly spark conversation and imagination. Words are difficult to find to describe how one feels.
