Solar Eclipse 2006 A collection by Ed Astle

I went to Turkey to photograph this. My first eclipse, excluding the 1999 clouded-out UK one.

I took a William Optics 80mm, a Canon 10D and a Vixen Porta tripod.
30 of my 40 photos were usable and were processed/stacked.

I did spend more time viewing than photographing.
But next time no camera at all.

Photos cannot impart the visceral sense of astonishment or collective awe shared by many all at once.
Some shrieked as if they we're having intercourse - but far louder than if they were!
In those few minutes everything changes.
The birds stop tweeting. They fly for cover at this unscheduled night.
The buzzing and chirrups of insects fall silent.
The eerie daytime silence, the eerie daytime darkness.
A hot day turning to chilly night in absence of that gentle dusk which softly rounds our day.
Time stands still, yet passes with haste.
All creatures great and small look to the Sun and are silenced by this crown of fire, this majestic halo in Heaven.
Apart from the shriekers.
