It started with a Tasco refractor probably Christmas of 1980. Even in the middle of Queens NY I was lucky enough to point at bright "stars" and one day I caught Saturn. It was far from a spectaular view thru that refractor, but it was truly life changing for me. As a boy, I never forgot the ears on Saturn, barlowed until it was a mess, lens coatings rubbed completely off from cleaning it with windex 1000 times.
In 2004 I bought my first serious scope. An 8" LX200 gps. I had some amazing views of all the planets thru it fom another balcony in Queens and started taking some planetary and deep sky with the first meade DSI. They were all horrible but I was proud of them. I was only taking the scope out a few times a year for lunar or planetary views until 2017 when I bought a dedicated Astro cam. I did some lunar and it was night and day from 2004 technology. Been hooked ever since although I have ventured far from my queens balcony to image :)
