I've been fascinated by solar astronomy since I witnessed a partial eclipse of the sun as a kid using projection through a small refractor. In 2012 I flew to Redding, California to photograph an annular solar eclipse with a simple Nikon setup with a 200mm zoom lens. That experience got me motivated to get a tracking scope for the 2017 total solar eclipse. I got a Meade ETX90 and adapters, and videoed until totality when I used the flip mirror to switch over to direct visual. Although I liked the OTA I hated everything else about that setup. Not wanting to wait for the next eclipse to observe prominences, I got into hydrogen-alpha and went through a Daystar Quark before settling into a Lunt60 pressure-tuned scope with a front tilt etalon. I'm constantly working to get the best images possible.
