When my son had his 13th birthday he wanted a telescope for stargazing. Since I did not want to give him a toy which may be useless after a few outings I bought him a Meade ETX125 GoTo Maksutov. He then was kind of disappointed because the scope did not really resemble a typical long and impressive telescope he had in mind (a refractor, that is). This was in 2013. Long story short, I tried to answer his many questions and soon was hooked myself. After a moderate case of aperture fever I ended up in first getting a Celestron 8" SCT (Edge HD) on an AVX mount using a DSLR for imaging (most/all of my images on Astrobin had been done with this set). In the meantime I got myself an 11" SCT (Edge HD, too), a 10micron 1000HPS mount and a cooled camera but I still enjoy the 8" scope for its portability and ease. I now need to find the time to set up and actually use the new scope but may have to wait until I retire in 2025. In my images on Astrobin you may see the progress I made over the years in processing the data with PixInsight which is without doubt the mightiest tool I have ever seen for (astro) image processing. The journey continues :-).
