I watched Comet West over the Olympic Mountains in 1976, with binoculars. I purchased my first real telescope, the 4" Unitron 152 refractor, at a garage sale in Princeton in 1978. I used my OM-1 camera with film for years, and after Comet Hyakutake (1996) and then Comet Hale-Bopp (1997), I eventually went digital. Being able to stack many frames with software is such a great tool. I have enjoyed high altitude dark skies in New Mexico now for more than 30 years, and have recently been able to upgrade my telescope and cameras.
