I bought my Celestron C8 in 1992 on a Vixen Super Polaris. It has the black tube without hyperstar or edge hd optics and since today without any modifications. Soon I got bored if visual observations and dreamed of taking photos, but that was the time of analog SLRs and b/w CCD-cameras - and I had no money! ;)
In 2013 - now living in a village with dark skies - I bought some necesessary equipment for astrophotography: a modified Canon EOS 600D, AZ-EQ6 and guiding equipment (new finderscope and Mgen Autoguider).
Knowing that a SCT and especially a C8 is not the recommended optics for astrophotography, I never spent a thought on buying an APO or anything else. My approach is to make the best out of my old C8.
