Description

NGC2359 is an emission nebula roughly 12,000 light years away from Earth in the constellation Canis Major.  It is caused by an extremely hot central star called WR7 that is likely to be in a brief pre-supernova period of it's evolution.    WR7 is 229,000 times brighter than the Sun and 13 times as massive.  The bubble of gas around the star is ionized by the powerful solar winds, and this is what causes the region to emit light.  The shock waves moving away from the star are interacting with nearby molecular material and this is what causes the unique shape of this nebula, resembling Thor's Helmet.

It has been a great season of clear nights and decent seeing in South Florida enabling me to go for 20hr plus integration times as was the case here.  This is rendered in an HOO pallet which I preffer for this target.

Thanks for stopping by!
