Tracking

I was asked if it is possible to capture night sky in one shot. The short answer is yes. However the longer would need some clarification. What are the purposes? How dark is the sky? Where is the moon? For Instagram it’s fine, though not so easy to do in a dark sky site and without the moon. If you want to print - my answer is no.

But there is always but. And this but is called equatorial mount or simply - star tracker. It’s a small box that rotates with the speed of Earth and lets you shoot longer exposure. This way you get a single image of night sky with low noise and good details.

To be honest I usually stick to stacking. But even when I track I still stack as I like to have the photo as smooth as possible.

This photo is tracked with Vixen Polarie, 1 minute exposure, 15 frames.
