Description

Barred and many armed, NGC 2336 is a large but distant beauty.  The core is a yellow-red color filled with older stars while the arms are blue with young giants and magenta with HII regions.  One of the HII region is so bright as to be visible here.  We are looking at a Nebula 2600 light years across at a distance of about 100 million light years. Nearby is IC 467, a non-interacting Intermediate Spiral.

I've seen NGC 2336 listed as 7' or 5' wide, but my measure comes in just below 6'.  IC467 measured right at 3'.  As a seasoned imager once told me, "they can't all be M51"!
