Description

NGC 1333 is seen in visible light as a reflection nebula, with starlight reflected by interstellar dust. 1,000 light-years away toward the constellation Perseus, it is a large, star-forming molecular cloud. The estimated area this occupies is about 1.5 full moons on the sky.

NGC1333 is the closest star forming region from Earth and contains hundreds of young stars hidden from optical telescopes by stardust. It formed over 4.5 billion years ago.
