Description

After a nearly yearlong hiatus from image processing, I finally felt motivated to process some deep sky images. First in line was this very interesting target, Cometary Globular 4 in the constellation, Puppis. I was not familiar with the cometary globular designation until I found this target while digging through some online resources about Southern Hemisphere deep sky objects. Some observers think it resembles a flower blossom, and others have nicknamed it the "Hand of God". To me, it appears to be a giant space dragon about to devour galaxy PGC 21338. While CG4 is about 1300 light years away, edge on galaxy, PGC 21338, is estimated to be about 120 million light years away. So anyone in PGC 21338 need not worry about being consumed by CG4 for the foreseeable future :-)

I strived not just to render the spectacular "head and neck" features of this space creature, but also reveal the billowing cloud fronts and dark dust lanes of its "body". Hope you enjoy my interpretation.

Clear Skies!
