Description

NGC 3953 (secretly also M109) With my last photo of M109 (NGC 3992), Henk Bril indicated that confusion has arisen over the centuries as to which galaxy Messier has put in as number 109 in the cataloue (NGC 3953 or NGC 3992. Long story short. NGC 3953, is very close to NGC 3992, (now commonly seen as M109).  It is also a barred spiral galaxy, and is also part of the Ursa Major cluster. The 2 galaxies are so close together that my 2 images of them even overlap at the corner. So I can still make it into a 4 panel mosaic by including the 2 missing corners. I think NGC 3954 is at least as beautiful as M109. This galaxy is a bit bluer, so there seems to be some more star formation in it. The spirals are also a bit finer in shape
