Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a trio of spiral galaxies all located 110 million light years away in the constellation of Libra at a declination of -13 degrees. All 3 galaxies have interesting structures with signs of deformation. They are likely interacting with each other.

The brightest of the 3 galaxies, at top center, is NGC 5915. This barred grand design galaxy spans 50,000 light years and appears to have tremendous star formation occurring. Numerous star clouds and HII regions are visible in the disk.

The largest of the 3 galaxies, at left, is NGC 5916. It extends for 100,000 light years. The arms of this galaxy are tremendous, winding through graceful paths as they lead to their star stream ends. The bottom arm ends in a large plume.

The 3rd galaxy, at right, is MCG-02-39-018. We appear to be looking at this galaxy edge-on, showing us a variation in thickness along its length.
