Description

Mosaic 2 panels.

The purpose of this mosaic is to be able to observe on the same plane interesting formations and characteristics of the lunar relief.

This is Copernicus, which takes a central place on this view, Stadius and Eratosthenes.

The first named shows its imposing radiant system that crosses the Carpathian Mountains (Montes Carpatus) to the northwest as well as Stadius and Eratosthenes to the northeast.

Stadius is a circular depression whose enclosure has completely disappeared in several places. The arena is riddled with small craters in wells.

South of Copernicus, two small craters Fauth and Fauth A form a double crater whose general outline resembles that of a keyhole.

South-east of Copernicus, the Surveyor 2 probe crashed on September 23, 1966. It was the second probe in NASA's Surveyor program, designed to explore the lunar soil and prepare for the Apollo missions.
