Description

NGC 4490 at magnitude 9.8 and the smaller NGC 4485 are often called 'the cocoon galaxy'. They are around 45 million light years away from us in the constellation Canes Venatici. They are gravitationally interacting, although moving away from each other and are now 25,000 light years apart.

Camera/Filters: Apogee Alta U8300 FLI CFW-2-7 Baader filters

Guiding: On Axis Guider (ONAG) with ST402

Exposure: Luminance: 27x10 minutes binned 2x2, R:20x10 min G:16x7 min B:21x10 min all binned 3x3 for a total of 13.2 hours, 84 subs at avg of 566 sec

Processing: Image acquisition using CCD Autopilot. Initial processing was done using Maxim DL with subsequent processing using Photoshop.
