Description

Eagle Nebula & Pillars of Creation in H-alpha

-----------------------

The Eagle Nebula is an emission nebula of ionized gas and dust surrounding a region of active star formation, which contains young star clusters.

The entire nebula is around 70x55 light years across.

Also visible in this image are:

- The famous "Pillars of Creation", the structure with the 3 'pillars' at the center of the image

- The "Stellar Spire", the extended structure above the pillars near the center of the image

- NGC 6611, the star cluster of hot massive young stars right next to the pillars.

This image is the result of 10 hours of H-alpha data I collected in early May 2020, as part of an HaRGB composite project of the Eagle Nebula.

-----------------------

Total imaging time: 10 hours in H-alpha (120x5')

Telescope: Sky-Watcher Evostar ED100 Black Diamond
